Why Eastside Portland?

“Seek the good of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare”

- Jeremiah 29:7

Eastside is deeply loved by Jesus, often misunderstood, and home to over 160,000 people created in God’s image.

The majority of Portland’s immigrants and refugees live in the Eastside.  Portland’s Eastside is nearly a minority-majority area and certainly Portland’s most ethnically diverse.

East Portlanders earn the lowest income per capita in the city, 36% lower here than those living on the Westside.  Don’t let the stats fool you, though.  This under-resourced and overlooked area is bursting with beauty and resilience that reflects the majesty of Jesus.

Most significantly, though, Eastside is painfully lacking in local churches. Fewer than 40 churches currently exist for the 160,000+ people who live in the newly defined District 1. The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few. We believe that we are some of the laborers that others have been diligently praying for to be sent into this harvest field.

What God is doing in the hearts of the people and churches in the Eastside has captivated ours.  We have complete confidence that God is here – replacing ashes with beauty, restoring the ancient ruins, and bringing His Kingdom to the Eastside as it is in Heaven.
